Not comfortable giving online? There are other ways to support the Center for Investigative Reporting.

DONATE BY CHECK OR PHONE

If you prefer not to use your credit card online, no problem: Just call 1-800-733-0015 or 510-809-3161 and use your Visa or MasterCard to donate via a staff person at the Center for Investigative Reporting.

For donations over $1,000, please consider sending a check (since our online donation processor takes 3% of the face value of gifts). Mail your check, made out to “Center for Investigative Reporting,” with your name, address, city, state, zip code, and telephone number to the address below. Please jot your email address on the check so we can save paper in following up. Send to:

Center for Investigative Reporting
Attn. Terrel Hutton
2130 Center St. Suite #103,
Berkeley, CA 94704

Want to discuss a larger gift or learn more about CIR, with no obligation? Please contact Terrel Hutton, CIR’s Director of Development, directly at (415) 821-8539 or by email at development@cironline.org.

STOCK GIVING

The IRS allows donors one of its most significant tax breaks for gifts of appreciated securities. The Center for Investigative Reporting makes it easy for you to transfer a gift of appreciated stocks or securities directly into our brokerage account. If you are interested in making a gift of stock, please call Terrel Hutton at (415) 821-8539, and we’ll take it from there.

MATCHING GIFTS

Yes, there are still a few companies and institutions out there that match charitable donations – doubling or even tripling the value of your gift. Check with your company’s personnel office to see if your donation to CIR can have even more impact. If so, send us an email or call Allegra Bandy, CIR’s Operations Manager, at 510-809-3161 so we can follow up.

PLANNED GIVING

Making a planned gift to the Center for Investigative Reporting offers you a simple way to combine philanthropy with financial planning. In fact, a planned gift may help you give more than you thought possible, while still providing you or someone you designate with favorable financial and/or tax benefits. There are many easy giving options from which you can choose – from naming CIR as a beneficiary in your will, to a life-income arrangement. We have specialists who, with no obligation, can help you explore an arrangement that would work for you. Please call Terrel Hutton at 510-809-3170 to learn more.
