Christa Scharfenberg

Managing Director

Christa Scharfenberg is managing director of The Center for Investigative Reporting. She leads organizational planning and works closely with the leadership team to ensure that CIR’s editorial and business sides are coordinated and working toward the organization’s long-term goals and objectives. She joined CIR in 2003 as communications manager, served as acting executive director in 2007 and became associate director in 2008. Christa helped launch California Watch in 2009 and managed many aspects of the merger of CIR and The Bay Citizen in 2012. She was the senior producer of CIR's documentary "Banished" and executive producer of "Dirty Business: 'Clean Coal' and the Battle for Our Energy Future." She also was the executive producer of the FRONTLINE co-productions "Hot Politics" and "A Dangerous Business Update."
