Justice for Sale

"Justice for Sale" takes viewers to Louisiana, Texas and Pennsylvania, three of the 39 states where judges are popularly elected to show how campaign contributions may or may not influence court decisions. It also features rare, on-camera interviews with two sitting U.S. Supreme Court justices, Justice Anthony Kennedy and Justice Steven Breyer, conducted by correspondent Bill Moyers. This CIR Frontline co-production examines the case of a major chemical company prevented from building a new plant in a poor part of Louisiana by citizen activists and a university law clinic. The company and its business allies successfully petition the state Supreme Court to bar the law clinic from aiding communities in such cases. Meanwhile, the company plans to build a new plant in a different location.
